You guys, I couldn't be more excited to have Kayla Hollatz here today to share in work-life balance insight. Kayla runs an amazing blog and is the host of the #CreateLounge Twitter chat every Wednesday. Kayla is full of energy and I'm a total fan. Enjoy!
Kayla , tell me a little about yourself and what you do at Kayla Hollatz:
I help creative bloggers and entrepreneurs make a killer impression online with seriously actionable content and I help them build sustainable, organic communities with a pulse.
What does it mean to you to have work-life balance?
I haven't found the perfect formula yet. If you do, let me in on your secrets!
Do you have any rituals that help foster a more balanced lifestyle?
I try to make time for my passions outside of my blog and work. I'm a short-form poet so I dedicate my late nights to writing and reading other poetry collections. I also like to hike, take photos, and explore new places whenever I can. Also, nothing can keep me away from spending most of Sunday watching football games. It's about taking time for the things that matter to you.
Do you think rest is important in work and life? Why?
Absolutely. It's all about listening to yourself and knowing when it's time to take a break from your work and experience something new.
What have been your biggest struggles at Kayla Hollatz and how have you overcome them?
Definitely trying to balance working full-time while building a side hustle. It's come with a lot of sacrifices but I've learned a lot about myself in the process and it has redefined many of my creative processes for the better. I use my time much more intentionally now than ever before.
What advice would you give to someone searching to find their work-life balance?
Determine what your priorities are and stick with them, no matter how many times you feel pulled in another directions. Allow yourself to take breaks, whether that means blocking off a day on your calendar for self-love time or taking a mini hiatus from your blog. Do what you need to do to rejuvenate and refresh so you can come back bigger and better than ever.
Where do you find confidence and inspiration?
I open myself to inspiration of all kinds. With being a poet, I often find my most inspiring imagery from ordinary things.
Describe your perfect day:
This is tough! Go on an early morning hike to see the sunrise, meet up with some friends to go to a football game, then stumble into an outdoor music festival, and finish the night listening to old jazz records while I write. I clearly like to fit a lot into my days!
If you could go anywhere in the world to find and feel bliss, where would that be and why?
Any city I haven't been to yet.
Do you have a life motto?
I have many mottos, but my mantra for my business is Names > Numbers. It says it all.
